Feast Day: Assumption of the Virgin Mary
While some will say this isn’t a Pagan holiday, and technically it isn’t, it’s still a day that many Goddess worshipers honor as a day to mark celebration for the Virgin Mary who is sometimes seen as a continuation of the Great Mother Goddess in the “new world”. To the Catholics this day is celebrated as the day that Mary departs from her earthly life and body and ascends to her heavenly form. According to Nigel Pennick in his book “The Pagan Book of Days” this is the day that St. Mary is invoked in her fertile aspect to ensure good vintage, presumably with the words “On St. Mary’s Day, sunshine brings much good wine.“.

Today also marks the end of the Dog Days of Summer, when it is believed that the hottest period of the summer season has ended.

Today is also the birthday of Charles Godfrey Leland, author of ” Aradia, Gospel of the Witches “, born in 1824.

Quote of the Day: “If you want to reach a state of bliss, then go beyond your ego and the internal dialogue. Make a decision to relinquish the need to control, the need to be approved, and the need to judge. Those are the three things the ego is doing all the time. It’s very important to be aware of them every time they come up.” – Deepak Chopra
