Manifest With Simple Tarot Spells

I love working with tarot spells.  They a easy, require little in the way of supplies, and are super powerful catalysts for change and manifesting your desires.  You just need a deck of cards, a safe space to set them up where they can be left for a period of time, and a few minutes a day to focus on them, say an affirmation, and do a little meditation.

Today I’m sharing with you a spell for breaking through blocks and confusion.  This is one I shared with a client recently but I really wanted to share it with all of you as a framework for creating your own simple tarot spells.  Plus, I love this one.  🙂

This is a simple one that only uses three cards.  I’ve done some crazy big ones that use 12 cards before but 3 to 5 cards can do it just fine.

This isn’t a “magic bullet” but a way to focus your energy and desires for the Universe to help open the way for you to get what you’re after.  So you do have to take real world steps and you have to know what to do.  So this take a little planning. The cards create a visual and energetic road map to follow through your problem.  The also work as projectors and filters for the energy in your life and the situation.

What Ails You?

When you’re creating a tarot spell you need to know three things

  • What is your problem or issue that needs help
  • What do you need to do to get through it
  • What is the outcome you desire

For our example we’re saying that the problem is confusion and feeling like you’re dealing with either lack of clarity or illusions.  We know we need to make a decision about a direction to go and the will to do our part.  The result we’re after is “clear skies and bright sun” – joy, clarity, happiness and success.

Work It!

Working your spell is simple.  Begin by finding a place that you can do this where you can leave your cards {and any other items you may use} in place and in sight for the time you work the spell.

You can use any tarot deck you like.  Here you’ll see me using the Wild Unknown Tarot, which right now I am completely in love with.  The key here is that the deck you use has cards you need to work with that really speak to you.  Ideally the deck should be cleared before using it.  You can do this by putting all the cards in order {put the major arcana in order, then each suit in order, then stack the cards together}.  Then take the deck and hold it in your non-dominant hand {the one you don’t write with} and with your dominant hand tap or knock on it three times.  {I’m going to fully admit, because my tarot students will know this, I used to think this knocking the energy out was ridiculous, but I’ve been doing it the last handful of months with all my decks before I do a reading and it works perfectly.}

When you do your spell is up to you.  You can work with the moon cycles or you can do it just when you need it.

On your altar surface set up your cards.  Your Problem card to the left, Action card in the center, Result card to the right.  For our confusion situation we’re using the Moon, the Chariot, and the Sun.

cards

Once you’ve got your cards out you can add other things if you’d like such as crystals or candles.  I’ve add crystals, one for each card – black tourmaline for clearing the confusion, clear quartz point to amplify the power of the actions, and citrine to strengthen the outcome.

Now it’s time to pray, meditate, and talk to any guides, angels, or deities that you want to ask for help and guidance from.  Do this in your own way.

Decide on an affirmation to help you move through the cards.  With this one I would use something like:

I am seeing through the shadows and taking inspired action to move into the sunlight.

Every day take a few minutes to look at your cards, say your affirmation, and ask your helping spirits for guidance.

As you begin to get answers and see your problem start to shift, begin to slowly, a little each day, move the Problem card under the Action card.

As you start to see the big results in your Results card start to come to pass, slowly move the Action card {with the Problem card still under it} underneath the Results card.

centermovement

When you’re all done and your spell has manifested you can leave your stack of cards out for a little while to help you stay focused on the positive.  I like to burn a tea light and some offertory incense at this point as a thank you to the spirits for their help.

Hi Jess. Thanks for this post. Your botton link for worksheet is not working properly, btw.
What card would I use to quickly rent out my apartment so I can move?
    Thank you!

      Button fixed! {thanks for that!}

Hmmm…renting an apartment quickly. I would use the minor arcana cards for this because the Wands suit would be ideal for quick motion. I would put the 3 of Wands as the problem card {looking for the ideal people to rent, working on progress and preparation}. The 8 of Wands would be an ideal action card in the middle for quick movement. And for the outcome card at the end I would job to the Cups and use the 9 of Cups for wishes fulfilled {or you could go with the 10 of Cups for attainment and success in the home…your choice 🙂 }.

You might also want to throw in an orange candle for success to light the cards. And if I were going to use crystals with this I would use all quartz just to amplify the energies already projected by the cards.

      Good luck!!

    Hi Jess,
I love this card set! I went to the Wild Unknown site, checked it out. Went to a different youtube blog for a review. I bought them! I don’t have very many decks, I am pretty selective. But I connected with this deck right away. I like the symbology and the simplicity. Had to buy them.
I never thought of using tarot for manifestation. The idea of keeping the cards on the altar and moving one underneath the other as things resolve is inspired. Can’t wait to give it a go!
    Thanks Jess!

    • Jess Carlson says

It is amazing how many people have really connected with that deck! It seems like everyone is using it these days, which is awesome. It’s a fantastic deck.

  3. Liz says

What cards should I use to help me get my dream job. I have been going on interviews for positions that I really want but I don’t seem to get the job.

    • Jess Carlson says

Hmmm…Maybe for your Problem card the Five of Pentacles {feeling shut out from your dream job}, for an Action card I would go with the Ace of Wands {for really owning and showing your strengths and power} and then for your Results card I’d go with the Six of Wands {sounds like it’s been a bit of a battle and this would be the victory at the end of the fight}. But I would also add a few extra cards, maybe prop them up near your spell cards…use a card that represents that energy or intention around your dream job next to the Sun card for success and joy.

  4. Sunanda says

    Hi Jess

What cards will I use to improve my business its fairly new so that I am able to bear my expenses and grow more independent financially then depending on my family.
    Thanks for the help

    • Jess Carlson says

I think for your Problem card you might want to use either The Fool, because the business is so news, or Three of Pentacles for building your business …whichever you maybe feel more drawn to. For your Action card I would use the Eight of Pentacles for hard work and perfecting your systems and what you offer in your business. For the Outcome card you can kind of pick based on either short term or long term goals. You could work with The Sun for an overall sense of success and abundance. You could pick the Ten of Pentacles for building a long lasting legacy with your work that brings financial security. Or you could go with the Nine of Pentacles for more short term satisfaction with having enough business to help you live how you want to now in the present.

    • Jess Carlson says

Sooo…you have a block around manifesting but you want to work on manifesting a car. Hmmmm. Seems to be it would be better to work on removing the block rather than banging your head against your manifesting block, don’t you think? 😉

  5. Beth says

What about for anxiety or stress? Currently I’m moving and am feeling overwhelmed, my kid is already out there so I’m emotional and lonely but these are all good things. How can I embrace my lessons and find peace in the chaos?

    • Jess Carlson says

I tend to feel that embracing lessons and finding peace during chaos is all about simply being present and not trying to dodge, avoid, or escape the chaos, which is usually how a lot of people try to find their peace. If you’re looking for cards to do a tarot spell for peace you’d need to figure out exactly what your end goal is first. Your problem card should be a card that represents chaos for you and that displays how you’re feeling right now. For some people that might be The Tower but your chaos might not be so earth shaking. But if you’re more focused on just the overall anxiety, this is typically represented by the Nine of Swords. Your action card will depend on how you want to deal with it. You might pick the Four of Swords for just choosing to consciously relax and step away from the emotions. Or you might prefer to use the Eight of Cups to empower you to walk away from the things that are stressing you out and replace them with things that give you joy. For your end result card you’ll need to decide how you want to feel in the end. It might be the Sun or it could be the Ten of Cups…you’ll have to decide how you want to feel once you’re over the stress and anxiety before you can pick that one.

    • Jess Carlson says

      Hi Katie,

Well, it depends a little. First you’ll definitely want to pick a court card that represents him. I would actually use that court card and the Lovers card together as your final results or outcome card. But the other two will depend on a few things. Your first card will depend on what is holding back this relationship from happening without magick. What’s the “problem” as it were. The second card, the action card, I would probably use something like the Two of Cups to signal connection and coming together. But depending on the first card and the reason for why this needs magick and you may even have other work that needs to be done before you do this. So start there and then you can work with those other cards once you figure out your first card.

I want to be a worldwide spiritual saint. Want more n more inner wisdom and knowledge which I can share with people to help them in their all sort of problem.
Having complex that how can I be when I am my teachers and guides more knowledgeable or they will laugh at me about me.

  7. Kat says

This is really cool, thank you for sharing this! What cards would you suggest to use if I want to lose weight? 😂 A bit shallow, I know. But I found it so difficult to lose weight after my thyroid surgery. The doctor says I don’t need to take thyroid medication, and I eat very healthy yet it makes absolutely no difference. Thanks again!

  8. Pamela says

Hi Jess, This is very interesting. I did not know you could do spells with tarot so I’m very intrigued. I have been getting into reading cards a lot lately. What cards would you suggest to use to get your “big break”? I’m a musician and I’ve been doing the “keep on keeping on” dance for a long time, wondering if there is something I can do to help those energies manifest. Would it be similar to Liz’s dream job card layout? Thanks again and have a great day!

    • Jess Carlson says

It can be! You might want to consider if your middle card needs to be something different. I would try to think about a card that really embodies what you want to project into the world, or how you want people to see you. I might go with a court card for that, maybe the Queen of Wands, and use something there that represents your action as you really embodying this role in life. If you’re already doing what you want to do just not at the level you want to do it, your action would ideally be to kick up like 20 notches to get noticed. 🙂

      • Pamela says

Hi Jess, thanks for the reply! I’m familiar with some of the meanings of the court cards. I’ll look into them more, but if you suggest the Queen of Wands I might just go with her 🙂 Also, what cards would you suggest if I wanted to get better at my craft/instrument? I’m not at a beginning level, more intermediate. But I want to get to that master level. Thanks again for your insight!

  9. Thembi Carr says

Have you heard of The Doors of Perception Deck? Do you think this deck would be useful when casting spells? Or the Flower Spirit Cards? Let me know what you think! 😊

    • Jess Carlson says

Well, either of those are tarot decks, so you might need to really know the deck well to be able to pick the right cards to use. Honestly you can use oracle or tarot decks for this kind of work but I feel like with oracle decks you have to really know the deck and know that it’s a deck that has cards that meet your needs. With oracle decks it’s possible that some decks won’t have what you need. Neither of these two decks are my style, so I can’t speak to them specifically, but if you feel drawn to them, go for it! 🙂

Jess is a great teacher, as well as an insightful reading and a wonderful healer. Her lessons are informative and easy to understand. Her cards speak to her in a way that I hope mine will to me one day. I have also had a Chakra session and a Reiki session with her and afterward I felt at peace, balanced, and whole again (I was quite sick at the time). I trust very few people, and I follow my path alone, but I trust Jess. She’s a beautiful spirit.

When I started coaching with Jess I thought I was coming to her for help with a breakup and an unexpected and sudden international move. It turned out that wasn't the real issue at all! Jess asked questions I never would have thought to ask myself and gave me a whole new perspective on what was going on in my life. She made me feel like what I want matters. By the time we were done I felt like I could take on the world!

I was so overwhelmed trying to get back into my witchcraft practice, but Jess helped me create an actual plan and a schedule for doing the work. The results in just two months has been far beyond my expectations. I'm in touch with my power like never before!
