The Power of Practice – A Week of Soulful + Spirited Guest Posts on Spiritual Practice

powerofpractice

This week I have something very special and exciting to share with you all!  As many of you know I am in the process of moving – I’m actually typing this from my bed in my new place which, joy of joys, has air conditioning!  Oh, artificially chilled air in a desert climate, how I missed you!

This week I’ll be spending my days getting unpacked and settled as quickly as possible.  My husband always tells people I’m “allergic to cardboard” because of how quickly I can unpack after a move.  I just hate the disorganization of boxes piled high and not knowing where anything is. So since my mission for the next 7 days is to get back to feeling at home {only a million times better because my our new apartment rocks and is more like living in a resort than an apartment building} I thought I’d do something special.  My first ever guest blog post series!

This week you’ll be seeing a new post every day by an amazing woman in the spiritual and wellness field who is using spiritual practice to help support her life, her business, and her passions.  I got the idea while reading some stories about how people use their daily practice to get past the “what now” hump when it comes to letting go when something didn’t go as planned.  I was doing that specific reading because I had just had a really devastating “not as planned” thing happen.

The beautiful luxury apartment I’m not living in is not where I was supposed to have moved to today.  Three weeks ago my husband and I made the very difficult decision to back out of a deal to buy a house in one of the national forests in San Diego.  The house was a modified and expanded hunting cabin originally built in the 1940s.  It was beautiful.  It sat on about an acre and a half of land and was surrounded by giant pine trees, cottonwoods, and other mysteries woodland things that this suburban girl knows nothing about.

We had a lot of problems during the process but I worked non-stop with affirmations, visioning, crystals, and even some knot magic to get the house. We wanted it bad, even with the issues it had since we anticipated being able to get the price lowered a little or get the issues fixed by the seller.  Unfortunately the seller kept dragging their feet and the deadline for us to give final notice to our landlord was running out.  After two missed deadlines by the seller to respond to a counter offer from us we had to decide to back out.  If we kept waiting and things didn’t work out or the closing got pushed back there was a chance we’d have no where to go for a little bit – and with all our stuff and two cats that wasn’t something we wanted to deal with.

It was heartbreaking.  The town where the house is is and hour and a half away from the city.  30 minutes away from any big box stores.  4500 ft above sea level.  It was as private and quiet as you could ever hope since it’s a town with only 2000 people!  It would have been a massive change but I would have been back in nature again, similar to our first house we bought in 2006 that was on the edge of a swamp and wetlands in the woods in Connecticut.

But, alas, it wasn’t meant to be.  And it hurt.

So as I was working hard on letting it go and accepting that we had to go a different route, I was struggling.  Meditation wasn’t helping.  Affirmations felt like I was just lying to myself.  All my card readings I did just seemed to be mocking me.  In the end I found that two things really helped – EFT, aka tapping, and getting super clear on the intention behind what the house was so important and then working to turn that into a new kind of affirmation and vision and allowing the Universe to bring into my world something that would fulfill that desire.

And holy crap did it ever!

Our first sunset from our new place...not the same as a sunset in the mountains, but I like it!

This got me thinking…how do other people work with their daily practices and spiritual beliefs to keep them on track?  How does spiritual practice and daily practice support others with their lives and businesses and keep them feeling good about what’s happening around them? And with that The Power of Practice guest blog series was born!

Every day this week, starting tomorrow, you’ll see a new post from someone who I think is doing great things to help others kick up their practices and get themselves on track.

Here’s what you can expect:

  • Tara Bliss, life coach, writer, and inspirational speaker, will share her thoughts on spiritual practice and creativity.
  • Patty Kikos, yoga teacher and energy healer, will share her tips on creating balance between life and work.
  • Erin Smallbon, holistic wellness coach and registered nurse, shares her journey to creating a supportive meditation practice.
  • Rachel MacDonald, life and blog coach, writer and speaker, shares some of her tips on supportive daily practices.
  • Katherine Mackenzie-Smith, life coach, writer and speaker, talks about how important morning rituals to your spiritual and creative wellness.

I’m exciting to be sharing the wisdom of these amazing 5 women because each brings something unique to their view on the power of practice.  I hope you enjoy it and I look forward to healing all about your thoughts, tips, and practices during the week in the comments!

When I started coaching with Jess I thought I was coming to her for help with a breakup and an unexpected and sudden international move. It turned out that wasn't the real issue at all! Jess asked questions I never would have thought to ask myself and gave me a whole new perspective on what was going on in my life. She made me feel like what I want matters. By the time we were done I felt like I could take on the world!

OMG I'm blown away by the accuracy of the reading. Jess has a special gift. What she revealed to me, opened me up to a place I knew I should be at but was holding myself back from.

I was so overwhelmed trying to get back into my witchcraft practice, but Jess helped me create an actual plan and a schedule for doing the work. The results in just two months has been far beyond my expectations. I'm in touch with my power like never before!

Jess is a great teacher, as well as an insightful reading and a wonderful healer. Her lessons are informative and easy to understand. Her cards speak to her in a way that I hope mine will to me one day. I have also had a Chakra session and a Reiki session with her and afterward I felt at peace, balanced, and whole again (I was quite sick at the time). I trust very few people, and I follow my path alone, but I trust Jess. She’s a beautiful spirit.
