Welcome To My Nightmare

Jess's Big Goth Playlist

Actually, it’s not a nightmare at all.  And there isn’t any Alice Cooper on it {though he features prominently on my Halloween playlists}.  But I wanted to share my latest “what I did while I was sick” project.  Not as epic as the time when I had the flu in March and created an oracle deck, but it’s still pretty epic.

Back in June when Kevin and I moved into our new apartment we bought a full Sonos sound system for our whole apartment for both TV and music.  The only thing I’m missing is a Play:1 speaker for my bathroom for when I take baths in my huge comfy roman tub.  Otherwise the place is decked out…

  • 2 Play:1 speakers in my office to make a surround pair
  • 2 Play:1’s, a Sub and a Playbar in the living room/open area
  • A Playbar in the bedroom
  • And a Bridge and Connect to hook it all up

This system was a total accident.  I bought a Play:1 back in April for my office in our old apartment and realized when I got home it actually wasn’t what I wanted {I was really looking for a Bluetooth portable speaker}.  In fact the girl at the store who sold it to me didn’t know much about it and lead me to believe it was a Bluetooth speaker and said I didn’t need anything else but the speaker to play wirelessly.  Well, that wasn’t really true and I had to order the Bridge to hook up to the router in another room, but that was no big deal.

In the end we ended up with a house full of speakers.  And they are fantastic! I can’t say enough get things about the system.

One thing that I love about it is that it allows you to hook up to most major online music services.  I have subscriptions to Beats, Songza and Hearts of Space and Kevin has Pandora and Windows Music accounts.  So we have all that plus our Amazon stuff connected.  There’s always tons of music and the perfect music for whatever.

That’s what lead me to making this epic playlist today while I wasn’t feeling well.

This was from a year or so ago, hanging out very late at like 3am, chatting on VampireFreaks talking about Skinny Puppy.  Notice the very important Sisters of Mercy t-shirt that I’ve had since college.  I was wearing it two days ago.  I may actually have to replace it soon.  *sad face*

Something that isn’t a big secret is that I love all kinds of music but there are two kinds that hold my heart the most: electronic dance music and goth/industrial.  Lately I’ve been digging deep for old 80s and 90s goth compilations on Beats and have been able to find a bunch of stuff I have somewhere in our many hard drives of music.  I decided to take advantage of the create and save a playlist feature that the Sonos controller app lets you do and I made a {at present count} 119 track playlist.

I thought I would share what’s on my playlist in case {A} you like goth/industrial music too, {B} you just might be curious to know what music I listen to when I’m working away and {C} because I can talk about goth and industrial music all day and never get bored.  All those nights I spent in shitty basement goth clubs with leaky pipes and sticky floors in my 20s all around the northeast are very much tattooed on my brain.  Whether it was going to some bizarre little beach club like bar in Rhode Island to see the Genitorturers in like 1999 or one of the many Hell parties at ManRay in Boston, those were my favorite times.  And oh, OH those Red Death’s that Terri from ManRay would make. YUM!! {And it makes me feel a little old to reminisce like that!}

ManRay Hell flyer

I’ve got a smallish tote full of things I’ve kept over the years and a big part of that is every flyer from every club event I went to during my clubbing days. I have TONS of ManRay flyers.

So here it is…my Big Goth Playlist!  If you’re still reading you’re likely familiar with this music.  I want to just explain the weird break in of 80s music about halfway through.  I used to go to the 80s night that DJ Chris from ManRay would do back in the day {he was…well still is…one of the house DJs and also did the goth sets for the goth nights at ManRay}. I felt like since those nights were still a big part of my overall goth club days I needed to add some in the middle for good measure.

There are also some songs and bands missing that I would kill to have on here and that’s only because Beats didn’t have them and I don’t have them uploaded to my Amazon account yet.  So I know over time this will get bigger.   And just for fun the songs with a asterisk after them are all time faves…so a little more stuff you never asked and probably never expected to know about me!  fun.fun!

Update!!!

I received some messages on Facebook and Twitter asking about how someone could get a hold of this mix to listen to.  Sonos doesn’t have a playlist sharing feature {sadly} but I was able to recreate the whole mix, minus one song {Hamburger Lady by Throbbing Gristle} on Spotify.  You can check it out here if you’d like to listen to it. >>CLICK ME<<

Thank you for supporting and encouraging my weirdness.  🙂

Unfortunately I don’t have another way to share such a huge playlist. My only other suggestion might be to go on YouTube and search for things that might sound interesting.

Client Love

When I started coaching with Jess I thought I was coming to her for help with a breakup and an unexpected and sudden international move. It turned out that wasn't the real issue at all! Jess asked questions I never would have thought to ask myself and gave me a whole new perspective on what was going on in my life. She made me feel like what I want matters. By the time we were done I felt like I could take on the world!

OMG I'm blown away by the accuracy of the reading. Jess has a special gift. What she revealed to me, opened me up to a place I knew I should be at but was holding myself back from.

I was so overwhelmed trying to get back into my witchcraft practice, but Jess helped me create an actual plan and a schedule for doing the work. The results in just two months has been far beyond my expectations. I'm in touch with my power like never before!

Jess is a great teacher, as well as an insightful reading and a wonderful healer. Her lessons are informative and easy to understand. Her cards speak to her in a way that I hope mine will to me one day. I have also had a Chakra session and a Reiki session with her and afterward I felt at peace, balanced, and whole again (I was quite sick at the time). I trust very few people, and I follow my path alone, but I trust Jess. She’s a beautiful spirit.
