One of the big things that kills me is when I meet someone who’s super interested in the idea of magic, ritual and spiritual practice but when they go to explaining why they don’t do they say “Oh, who has the time! I’m so freakin’ busy!”
Yup, you are. I am too and so are all the other amazing people in the world who do things like meditation, divination, journaling and visioning on a daily basis. The difference between those people and Ms. Excuses over here is that they put their spiritual practice in the No Excuses No Exceptions list of their daily lives. In the end they are better people for it!
And I promise you many of these people are working with short, focused, intentioned kinds of ritual and practice.
Meditation is the one thing I bring up the most because it’s the thing that most people point to and balk at because of time. But the fact is if you sit down for even 30 seconds and take a deep breath and let go of your stress you’re going to move on with the rest of your day from a much happier, centered, clearer place.
I mean…Oprah meditates. Russell Simmons is a big time meditator {he just wrote a book about it}. Howard Stern, Moby, David Lynch, Jerry Seinfeld, Liv Tyler, Lena Dunam…all busy, busy people who are said to be active meditators.
But let’s go past meditation. How would you like you infuse your day with gratitude, bless your day with productivity, infuse your aura with protection and energetically open the way to doors to your big dreams every day with 5 minutes or less? And all from the moment you get up!
You can do it! Super simple.
Do these 5 rituals that take under 5 minutes each as you start your day – do it every day – and BOOM! Babe, you just created a spiritual practice!
Now it’s your turn!

So awesome! Love these visualizations, and I’m a huge fan of magical morning routines. I start my day usually with some movement (a walk or yoga), meditation, tea/lemon water, and try to be intuitive with it (somedays I’ll journal, others I’ll read, etc.).

I like those 🙂 I like to sing a song that is a part of my daily practice then drink a small cup of yummy elixirs and tinctures. Oh, and light a candle 🙂

Meditation & gratitude are AMAZING ways to start the day. I also like to light a candle or an incense stick as a sort of calm greeting to the day ahead. Great suggestions…it’s the small, simple ways that we can create presence and awareness that make the biggest difference!

Wonderful post!! Also, those of us with a bit of actual ADHD, feel overwhelmed by lengthy meditations and practices, can truly relate to all of these. I love to light incense and sage in the mornings, on my altar and for the whole house. I have also started burning cinnamon for energy movement. What a needed and purposeful blog. Thank you Jess! How do you make liquid spray as mentioned above for balancing and clearing out the bad vibes?
Jess Carlson says
To make a liquid smudge use 10 drops each of sage and cedar essential oils and a small piece of cleansed clear quartz added to distilled water in a small {4oz} spray bottle. Use distilled water rather than tap so you don’t end up with any impurities in the water causing mold or anything like that. Once everything’s int the bottle just shake well before using and spray around your space and on yourself.

Love those, will remember to do from now on, thanks

Love this! Found you on pinterest. There is a BEAUTIFUL sage smudge spray from an organic company called living libations. Keep up the awesomeness!

Thanks for the suggestion. I like making my own mostly so I can keep the scent how I like. I looked them up and looked at their spray and saw that have leleshwa in which is a type of camphor…and camphor makes me cringe. 😉 But I’m sure with all the other stuff in it {there’s a lot in that spray} it probably gets drowned out a bit.

Any time spent outdoors, connecting with nature can become a ritual. Just five minutes in the yard feeling the sun, listening to the birds and smelling the jasmine blossoms can completely resetyour spirit.
