Hi, I’m Jess Carlson.
I’m a Chaos Witch passionate about tarot reading, necromancy, writing, and magick through art and artistic expression.
I’m all about spreading the magickal love and making witchcraft as down-to-earth and practical as your favorite pair of cozy socks. The notion that magick is reserved for some mystical elite? Ugh, please! Newsflash: we all have a little witchy spark within us, just waiting to be unleashed. You don’t need to be born into a cauldron of witches or have a lineage dripping in spells to work your magic. All you need is a heart full of curiosity, a zest for transforming your life, and the commitment to sprinkle a bit of intention and witchery into your everyday routine.
So, if this sounds like you and you’ve just stumbled in (welcome, my little witches!) I’m thrilled you’re here! In this space, you’ll get an idea of who I am, what I’m conjuring up, and the goodies you can find as you explore my blog, and social media, or dive into any of my ebooks and courses. Let’s make some magick together – with a side of fun, of course! ✨
My Mission...
is to help curious mystics and would-be modern witches find ways to use practical magick and spiritual techniques that work for them and fit into their busy, everyday lives. Through my blog posts, social media, digital products, and private witchcraft mentoring I help them gain knowledge and inspiration to get in touch with their inner witch to become spellcasters and magickal magnets who can find their path and follow it with confidence
I have a big story, but here is the short version…
I’ve been into spirituality and magick for 40 years and have been reading tarot professionally for 30 years. I started with Wicca, practicing Scott Cunningham style solitary Wicca. I dedicated myself at 13 during a full moon around the Summer Solstice in 1988. Since then, I’ve trained as a high priestess, earning degrees in various traditions, including a Third Degree in the Temple of Witchcraft and a Second Degree in the Cabot Tradition, along with shamanism initiations. I’m also certified in Usui Reiki, tarot reading and counseling, angel healing, and paranormal research.
I began sharing my magick experiences online in 1995, being quite active in AOL chatrooms. If you were in a religious debate room, you’d probably find me there ready to argue. At 20, I felt the need to prove myself. Now, I don’t care what others believe; I just want others to respect my beliefs while we all work to create spiritual paths that support our ethics and morals. Here, you won't find pressure to become a witch like me; instead, I hope to inspire your journey as you create your own magick.
I've had an intense personal journey, going from living in a freezing illegal apartment with no heat to enjoying a luxurious home in California. I've faced deep depression, drug addiction, and feelings of pure joy on my own. In 2018, after moving to Las Vegas, my finances and health worsened. Vegas has a way of turning your life upside down! The 2020 pandemic forced me to pause my business while I dealt with personal challenges. In early 2021, I got divorced after 14 years of marriage, and I moved back to Connecticut with my best friend Minerva. (she’s my black cat who often makes appearances on my Instagram). Soon after, I found my soulmate on a dating app, of all places!
Let Me Explain What I’m About
Wild Witchery
Most of us hold back from using our power and many of us actually have fear around embracing it. Let’s be honest, once you realize how much power you actually have you lose all excuses for not making changes in your life and that scares the shit out of people. But wild witchery is also about actual magick. Witchcraft; doing rituals and working spells, harnessing your power and focusing it to address your needs and doing it without excuses. I'm a chaos witch so my approach to magick that you'll find is different from that of other witches that might practice specific traditions like Wicca. I embrace doing magick from different traditions and different paths and using those traditions to inspire the creation of my own magick. I believe in the power of found gods, the collective unconscious energy behind pop culture, and the power of aesthetic and symbolism and using it to manifest our intentions.
Daring Spirituality
Spirituality is not meant to be dictated by a book or another person. Daring Spirituality means we are our own gurus and we create our path with the Divine. We dare to create our own rules about a connection with the Source, relationship with the Divine and what name and face we give it, and how we co-create this spirituality with the Universe. For me, as a chaos witch, I use magick and witchcraft from many traditions, creating my own beliefs, traditions, and path that changes often. I feel that as someone that is not part of a traditional religion or specific witchcraft tradition that there is no reason for me to have self-imposed limits on my beliefs, so things can get a little weird and wild in my world of witchery.
Make Your Own Magick
One of the most frustrating things for me to watch with my clients and people that I connect with on social media is the way so many people feel they have no choice but to follow traditions and practices that have been laid out for them by other people. Over the years of working with my coaching clients, I discovered that so many of them felt they were failing at their practice and their spells weren't working because they were basically following someone else's practice and not their own. Don't get me wrong, tradition is great! But instead of trying to force yourself into a tradition that doesn't totally fit you, it's better to create a practice that actually fits your life and your beliefs. It's important to me to encourage my readers, followers, and clients to find the confidence and knowledge they need to create their own spells, rituals, and magickal path.
