A/V Sunday Marie Laveau & New Orleans

So, yes, today isn't Sunday but I didn't want to miss A/V Sunday entirely.  My weekend just got away from me and I actually didn't realize I'd missed posting this until almost 11pm last night!  So here we are, playing catchup and checking out some A/V Sunday fun.  For this week's video posts I have some bits that look at Marie Laveau and New Orleans Voodoo and Hoodoo.When I was 11 and started to find information about Witchcraft and magick I discovered bits and pieces about Voodoo and Hoodoo, which to me were all Voodoo in my head.  I wasn't very interested in the spiritual aspect of these things because I was turned off by the involvement of saints and other Catholic elements at the time.  But the magickal part, working with roots, herbs, and oils and casting spells with them did interest me.  One of the reasons was that many of the common ingredients for things used in these spells, cayenne pepper, red pepper flakes, basil, bay leaves, etc, were all things I could easily get my hands on at my young age.  I just simply had to go into the kitchen of my house and I found much of what I'd need.  I still remember my first set of "magickal herbs" were spice containers I'd stolen from the kitchen and hidden in a yellow plastic shopping bag in my bedroom.  Jars of allspice, clove, bay, different types of pepper.  Then I started to find candles around the house to use and soon I was venturing into my first attempts at candle and herb magick.Since then I have come to really find that hoodoo draws me back all the time.  I have no known Afro-Caribbean heritage and no ties to New Orleans other than the deep love I have of the place.  I had wanted to go there for many, many years and last summer when I finally got the chance I felt instantly at home. The moment I got out of the car and stepped foot on the ground in the French Quarter I felt like I'd always known New Orleans.  And walking around the city and spending the time I did there I felt so at home, which could simply speak to a past life connection.  I have also always had a deep love of the stories about Marie Laveau and consider her  a spiritual ally and I make offerings to her and connect with her often.So to honor these things I' have for you a few short videos that share a little bit about Marie Laveau (of where there are two, something that many people are unaware of) and her home of New Orleans and it's rich traditions and history.
