Here it is, almost the middle of June. That means it’s about the middle of 2014. Yes, half of 2014 is done and over. Have you stopped to look back at your thoughts and plans for the year yet to see how you’ve done so far? I’ll bet that if you have it’s because you’re rockin’ 2014 like nobody’s business. If you haven’t it’s probably because you know you’ve either checked off nothing from your “to do” list for the year or you’ve fallen way off course. That’s OK, it happens! With a mid year check in and a few simple tweaks to your perspective on things, you’ll get your 2014 mojo back!
A lot of people think of a mid year check in terms of work. A lot of employers will do a mid year check in to see how you’re doing, where you’re going, and are you on track for whatever you’re supposed to be doing. We don’t often think of doing something like this for ourselves but it’s a really good idea, especially if you started the year out really amped up to make some big changes or to accomplish something really special.
I want you to use this as your motto…
[Tweet “Life may get in the way but it shouldn’t stop you from going after what you’re passionate about.”]
It’s true! We let “life got in the way” become an excuse for why we don’t do things.
Stop that. Seriously!
The first thing you need to do is get your mojo back! You know that passion you had at the start of the year to do that big thing you said you were going to do? Let’s start there.
Did you make a list of to-do’s, dreams or goals for the year back in January?
If you did, bring it out and start looking at it again. And if you didn’t do one there’s no shame in doing it now! What did you accomplish already? Cross those things out. Then look at the things that you have left. What are you excited about? When you look back over this reduced list what one thing jumps out at you? What makes you say YES, I can make this happen?
Have a “glass half empty” approach.
You might be looking at your list and thinking “Ah CRAP! The year is half over. I’ll NEVER make this happen!” Au contraire! The only way you wont do these things is because you believe you can’t. So believe you can! Remember that even if you don’t complete the things on your list if you’re working toward them and making daily or weekly strides towards them, then you’re doing great!
Be honest and realistic when you look at your list.
One of the things that has fall off track early in the year {for some of us it happens on January 2nd} is because we aren’t honest and realistic about what we can do in the time frame we’re given. If we’re talking about what we can do in a calendar year you have to remember that’s just 12 months with life happening at the same time. Now since we’re talking about six months of time, be honest about what you can do.
Focus on one or two tasks.
As a sort of extension of the last point, maybe it would be ideal to simply focus on one or two big tasks, goals, or projects for the rest of the year rather than trying to cram in a ton of stuff. This is how you may have lost your flow in the first place and the point here is to make these last handful of months count! And most importantly know where you want these tasks to be at the end of the year. Are they completed? Are they half way done? Where do you want to be come mid-December?
Plan ahead and blueprint your next 6 months.
Take your one of two tasks and plan out action steps to get to where you want to be in December. This may mean breaking down for each month of the rest of the year one major part of your goal being completed. Then break down from that one monthly goal weekly goals and then daily goals. Use this freebie worksheet to plan it all out!
Check back in monthly.
Don’t let this all fall to the wayside! Check in with yourself monthly. Make sure that you’re scheduling your tasks and checking them off your calendar. Then come back on a monthly basis to see where you weekly and monthly goals have ended up. If things went great, then keep doing what you’re doing. If they didn’t then make changes straight away so that your next month is uber productive!
