Lately I’ve found myself doing a lot of work with clients that has me reminding people about the power and importance of intention. We have a really bad habit as busy people to forget to things with intention and purpose. We go about our day in a routine sort of way, often doing things the same way day in and day out because that’s just how we do it.
Think right now about how you go about your morning routine. When you become aware that you are back in normal waking consciousness, what’s the first thing you do. Do you open your eyes or do you take a few minutes to come back in your body completely? Do you reach right away for your mobile device to check your email or do you take a moment to hold a space of quiet gratitude for a new day? When your feet hit the floor what’s the first thing you do and why?
It doesn’t matter what you do or how you do it; there is no right or wrong way to go about your day. What does matter is the why. The why behind all of this equates to your intention behind what you do in your day and that’s what matters most.
Intention is defined as “a determination to act in a certain way”. It’s the reason for what you do and the why behind everything.
If you check your email before your eyes are barely open in the morning, why do you do it? What is your intention for checking your email in that moment? Why is it important and how does doing this at this moment impact you and your day?
Having intention means simply being aware of why you’re doing what you doing. Living with intention means having a specific aim and focus and making all your actions, everything you do, align with that intention so you can manifest what you most desire.
In Shamanic practice everything is done with an intention. Every healing, every journey, every ritual for the earth is done with an intention set ahead of time. Nothing is done “just because”. There’s always a reason, one that’s thought out and purposeful, and is the center of everything else that’s done.
Try setting and living with a specific intention for the next 21 days. Take a little time to get clear on what you truly desire; focus on feelings and emotions, not the vehicle that delivers them. For example if you think that a new car would make you feel a sense of freedom then it’s not so much the car but freedom that you desire. If you find yourself only able to think of material things you desire ask yourself why you desire them. What is the feeling or emotion having that thing would give you and create your intention around that.
Write your intention as a positive affirmation and place it somewhere that you’ll see if before you even get out of bed in the morning. So if freedom is your desired feeling, create the intention to live your day with a willingness to open to and embrace freedom: I live every moment of this day embracing freedom in all its forms.
As you create the intention of finding, accepting, and embracing freedom you will start to find that more and more the people you meet, the opportunities you receive, and the things that happen around you are all connected to freedom on some level in your life.
Do you have a question you need an answer to? Set that as your intention. Each day ask the Universe your question and put out the intention that you will receive more information for an answer. As you do this people and opportunities in your life will begin to appear that give you the guidance you need.
Setting a daily intention or a daily question to the Universe strengthens your bond to Spirit and helps to train you to see the world in a different way. Your clairsenses begin to open up more and you see that nothing happens “by accident”. Everything is tuning and aligning to your soul’s needs.
