It’s more fun than the Red Wedding and costs less than a ship for the Khaleesi…because it’s free. Yup! It’s time for a fun freebie that allows me to stay in my element of tarot while indulging my new found obsession with Game of Thrones.
Here you’ll find my personal interpretation of the major arcana of the tarot set with the backdrop of the first three seasons of Game of Thrones. It’s all printable and it’s all free!
Important Note: This is based on the TV show and not the books…so you’ve been warned.
You’ll get all 22 major arcana cards, plus a few alternate versions of some cards, and a 13 page guidebook that gives the meanings of the cards {for those not familiar with tarot} and my reason for using the character or setting that I did for each card.
Let me know what you think!
Have a different idea of who should grace a card? Tell me in the comments and let’s talk Game of Thrones {seriously, I’m obsessed}.

You should have it as a list opt-in. This is a great gift for the Gameof Thrones & Tarot fans out there.

I had thought of that but it's not the best representation of anything else I do. 😉

I like very much, and look forward to using them. Only I am disappointed that my download did not include Dany as Empress (no doubt an oversight). To my mind she is more the Empress than Catelyn, partly because of being in a position of much greater power.
I’m not entirely comfortable with Lysa as Hermit, as I also see the Hermit as the way-shower, shining a light for others. Lysa was never that. However I understand why you chose her, and it’s hard to think of anyone who is better for the role. Shirreen Baratheon? Osha?
Jess Carlson says
Nope, no oversights…simply my personal interpretations. At the time when this was made I definitely didn’t see Daenerys in the Empress role. If I was making it today, absolutely.
As for the Hermit…that was a tough one! I picked Lysa for the more literal interpretations and the “soul seeking in solitude” kind of way. Shireen Baratheon had only just been introduced at the time but, again, if I were making it now I would see her as a good choice. I’ll admit that I did consider Osha but I wasn’t totally sold on her in that role but I could see where she would have merits there.

Many thanks, Jess, for explaining. Glad to see I wasn’t far off the mark! And of course, above all thanks for making and sharing these cards!
And I hope I didn’t sound churlish, above. I think you have done a wonderful job of assigning the right people to the right cards. And I say this, having read all the books so far and watched to the end of Season Four. Some are positively inspired, e.g. Samwell as Fool and Brienne as Strength. Some were absolute shoo-ins, such as Melisandre for Priestess.
I do intend to have a play with these cards, and even use them, by way of one example, in a Tarot course I’ll be teaching soon. (Properly accredited to you.) I might decide to use the Daenerys and Khal Drogo card as my Empress, as it has her image and I’ll be using Tyrion and Shae as my Lovers … or I could stick to Catelyn who, after all, was indeed fiercely maternal and certainly had her fair share of worldly power.
I’ve already had fun, just talking to you about your cards! 🙂

I really like the cards! i had the idea of using the house sigils for the images: The Tyrell rose for the Sun and so on.
