Summer is almost here, officially, and for many people that means downtime, vacations, and unadulterated “me time” becomes more possible. It’s funny how even when we’re not in school anymore it seems that our lives and the schedule the world seems to keep still follow a little bit of that academic calendar.
I think we all feel it at two particular times, summer and fall. When September comes around we get that “second beginning” to the year where we want to refresh our goals and reset our intentions for the remainder of the year so we can get things done. When June rolls around we’re ready for time away from our usual routines and obligations, even if it is just for a week or two.
If you’re like me you might want that time to yourself but your brain isn’t exactly ready to shut off. Instead, you might find that rather than napping under a palm tree or lounging in a pool, you’re ready to spend time studying the things that you don’t get much time to focus on normally.
Think of this as your own personal summer school!
Getting the most out of a week or two of time to focus on whatever you want can be tricky. As that time is approaching you might feel like it’s sooo much time and you’ll have time to do so many things, but then as it’s actually happening you quickly realize that it’s not nearly enough time to do what you really wanted.
The thing that you may be lacking is simply focus.
Let’s start with something super practical. Pick three things that you want to do, learn, or accomplish over the summer months or over a specific period of time during the summer that you might have off from work or school.
Once you decide on those three things, break them down into three to five smaller steps. These should be small goals that can be completed in a day if possible.
Next, plan it out. If you only have a week off of work you know you can’t realistically complete three big things. Pick one of your three and create one doable task for each day you’re off work that will lead toward you achieving your goal.
You might be thinking “This is all well and good, but isn’t this MAGICK Monday?! Where’s the magick part?”
We’re going to make a charm for your goal.
It will be something that you can carry with you to be a reminder of the importance of your goal and to help attract the right opportunities and energies to get things done.
You Will Need:
? An orange spell bag or a square piece of orange cloth and white string to tie it closed
? A High John root
? A pinch of Orange Peel
? A pinch of Lavender
? A piece of tumbled Lepidolite
? A small print out of the Ace of Swords tarot image
? A pen
? Sandalwood Incense
Take incense and light it. Hold your bag or cloth in the incense smoke to bless it. Sandalwood helps bring focus and clarity to our work and lives.
Now take your little Ace of Swords and on the backside of it write down what it is that you want to accomplish. You can also include the time frame if you’re setting a hard deadline or you can leave it open-ended. Pass that through the incense smoke as well, visualizing yourself being focused, on task, and getting things done on time.
Put your paper with the card image face up and fold it toward you. Turn it 90 degrees and fold it toward you again. Turn it one more time 90 degrees one last time and fold it toward you. Place it inside your bag.
Next, you’re going to add your other items one at a time, stating out loud what it is that you want them to do for you.
Here is what each item is intended to do:
? High John is for achieving your goals and overcoming obstacles along the way
? Orange Peel is for success and a feeling of accomplishment no matter what happens
? Lavender is to help you stay calm and positive in the face of challenges
? Lepidolite is to help you stay organized both physically and mentally
You might want to say something like:
Spirit of High John I ask you to help me achieve my goal of XXXXX and help me to overcome all obstacles that get in my way.
Say use this as a bit of a template for your other intention statements.
As you say these intentions, like with the High John root, visualize yourself being successful with your goal and easily overcoming obstacles. Feel what it feels like to know that anything that gets in your way you have the ability to deal with and come out on top.
Do this with all of your herbs and your stone.
Once everything is in your bag, hold it open so that some of your incense smoke can go directly into the bag. Then before all the smoke can escape, close it up and tie it shut.
Hold your bag to your heart and send energy to the bag while also feeling the energy of the bag filling you with focus, positivity, determination, and a feeling that your goals are more than just within your reach, they are right there in front of you waiting to be claimed.
Carry the bag with you when you’re doing your tasks or keep it somewhere sacred. If your work involves something like writing or studying and you’ll be doing that at your desk at home you might want to keep your bag there. But if your goal is to walk three miles a day each day for a week, carry your bag in your pocket when you go out for your walks and keep it next to your bed so you see it when you go to sleep and when you wake up each day.
