Just when I thought I was done talking about this whole Blue Moon thing I ended up posting a little edit to my post from the other day. I was sitting here this morning doing my morning Facebook perusal and I saw post after post about the Blue Moon and about how there is so much extra magickal energy to be harnessed during this full moon. And it got me thinking. I started thinking about the post I made the other day and began to really think about the two different types of Blue Moons. That’s what lead me to making my edit to the original post because I had a bit of a thought…how rare is this really? How special is it really?
This type of full moon happens as a result of the timing from our man-made calendar. It doesn’t have anything to do with the cycle of the moon or any out of the ordinary natural phenomenon. It’s all because of the Gregorian calendar and the number of days that end up being in a month. And how rare is something that you know is going to happen every 2 or 3 years like this type of Blue Moon? That leaves me to think that four full moons in a season is a little more special.
But at the end of the day a full moon is a full moon, blue or not.
So instead let’s talk about something for all you Blue Moon magickal mavens! Wish Magick for the Blue Moon.
We hear things about how you should wish upon a blue moon and things like that, so wish magick is a great thing to do doing full blue moon when you don’t know what else to do. Sometimes you just don’t have a plan or a specific need but you’d like to do a spell of some kind for the full moon and, really, who doesn’t have a wish they’d like to fulfill?
You might want to also consider the fact that this moon is in the sign of Pisces. It’s an ideal time for magick that involves letting go, emotions and love, intuition and psychic energy.
Here’s a simple wish spell that I put together for the blue moon. This is a pretty basic spell and anyone can do this!
You’ll Need:
- 1 light blue candle with holder
- 1 small square of paper
- 1 moonstone
- Blue Moon Wishing Oil {recipe below}
Now it’s time to mix up your oil. My recipe for…
Blue Moon Wishing Oil
9 drops Lavender oil
6 drops Sandalwood oil
3 drops Light Musk oil
3 drops Heather oil
1 drop Jasmine oil
Mix these in 2 Tbsp of base oil {jojoba or sweet almond}. If you have any you can add quartz crystal or moonstone chips to the bottle. Once you oil is done, let it sit on your altar while you work on the rest.
On your piece of paper write your wish. Write it in a formal way like you’re writing a mini letter to the Gods. Follow this…
“I ______ ask ______ {if you have a specific spirit or deity that you are petitioning} to grant me my wish of ______. In return for my wish I will _______ {list an offering you’ll give, an action you’ll take, or any other kind of gratitude or repayment you’ll make}. For the good of all and with harm to none, So Mote It Be!”
Place a dab of oil on each corner of your paper and fold it toward you once. Place this in the center of your workspace. You’ll be putting your candle holder on top of this.
Next prepare your candle. If you would like to carve your candle, include your name, astrological symbol, and either words or symbols that represent your wish. Rub it with the oil in long strokes going from wick to base {this motion draws things to you}. While you do this you can chant any wishing or full moon chants you use or you can just chant the name of the thing you’re wishing for, seeing yourself having it, but most importantly feeling the way you’ll feel once you have it.
When you’re ready place the candle in your holder and the holder on top of the petition paper. Light the candle and, if you can remember it, recite your petition or something close to it. Take a little time to hold the moonstone and feel the feeling of having your wish fulfilled and seeing yourself with what you’re requesting.
Place the moonstone in front of the candle and let the candle burn down on your altar.
Once the candle is out, place the petition with the moonstone on top of it somewhere special where you’ll see it. When your wish is fulfilled be sure to honor your end of the deal by fulfilling your gratitude offering. Keep the moonstone as a reminder of your wish fulfillment and use it as a wish fulfillment stone from here on out since it now has the energy of answering wishes. Any time you want to do a wish spell like this again in the future, use this moonstone in the same way.
And there you go! A little wish magick for the full moon!
