I received an email today from Loreena McKennitt’s newsletter announcing the anticipated release of “A Mediterranean Odyssey” this fall. This will be a limited edition, two disc, commemorative set of live and previously released tracks. The first disc, “From Istanbul to Athens” will consist of live tracks from the 2009 Mediterranean Tour which will include some never before live recordings of some of Loreena’s music (which tracks these will be is yet to be known as no track lists have been announced). The second disc, “The Olive and the Cedar” will all be previously released tracks that follow a Mediterranean theme. This disc consists of tracks hand picked by Loreena and will consist of previous studio recordings of songs from between 1994 and 2006.
Quinlan Road, Loreena’s record label and online shop, has announced that there will be a deluxe edition and a budget edition of the set as well as the usual MP3 downloads from iTunes and the Quinlan Road site. There didn’t seem to be a specific differentiation made between the two sets though the discs are said to be contained in “richly designed slip cases” and the live disc will be accompanied by a 24 page “lavishly illustrated booklet” of photos from the 2009 tour.
There is no release date as of yet, just that it will be out in soon. Quinlan Road Community members will have the opportunity at a pre-sale of the set before sales are made to the general public. If you’re not part of the community go here now to sign up to keep track of the upcoming release and get your pre-order when you can.
