I am getting older. Not old, but older. When I started out in the Craft cell phones weren’t a thing. At one point my Mom has a portable car phone because we would take long trips to Cape Cod and she worried about breaking down on the way. This was literally a phone in a big box with a damn shoulder strap that you would plug into the cigarette lighter of your car for power.
Nobody had cell phones because they didn’t exist.
Very few people had computers. They were big and expensive. The first computer in our house had a tape drive. A cassette tape drive. Yes, for you young ones, that was a thing!
But things are different now, much different. We’re almost always attached to a device or have our eyes on a screen. Some would say this is horrible, that it’s taking us away from Spirit, that it’s hurting our lives in some irreversible way. I saw someone say in a discussion about technology and magick that they actually wrap their phone in tin foil and place it outside their house, as far as they can in their yard when they are going to cast a spell.
I say that’s some ridiculous bullshit.
Besides, there are so many great magickal and spiritual apps out there you’d be silly NOT to take advantage of this power in the palm of your hand to the fullest extent.
Working magick the “old school” way, as it were, is still and will always be something I do and something I love. You will have to pry my wand and candles from my cold dead hands. But I’m also well aware of the power of using technology, mainly because it’s such a big part of our daily lives.
If you’re still thinking “Na, no, nope,” just remember there is quartz crystal inside electronic devices, including your phone. Quartz has piezoelectric properties that allow it to generate energy. And isn’t generating energy what you want to do with a spell?
How can you do to work magick with your cell phone?
There are three specific ways to work a spell with your device:
? Emoji spells
? Text spells
? Email spells
You can do these spells for yourself or for someone else, but the trick with any of them is that you have to send them out somewhere. This means that someone else needs to see your spell, but don’t worry, it may not even look like a spell to most people, nor does it have to.
I make this point because there are people who will do this kind of magick and send it to themselves rather than putting it out into the Universe widely. For instance, they might do an email spell and send the email to themselves at a secondary email address. Instead, you want to send it to another person, either a friend that doesn’t think you’re a crazy person or if the spell is designed to help someone else, send it to that person.
If your spell is for yourself, what do you do with it then? Easy…social media.
Post it to your Twitter or Facebook accounts. Post it in a comment or caption of an Instagram post. Start a blog (Tumblr is great for this) and post them there. You don’t need to write a long preamble about what it is, just post it.
If you’re worried about negative comments or “WTF is this?!?!” kind of comments, turn off commenting on your post or just delete the ones that don’t add to the energy of your intention.
How do you write a digital spell?
The basics of digital magick are the same as any other. You determine your need, create an intention, craft your spell, and then cast it. One thing about this kind of magick is that your intention and the energy behind it becomes very important and takes center stage.
In traditional spell work, you might use minimal words and instead focus on raising energy for your intention through physical actions or meditation. Then you would direct that energy into an object or out into the universe in some way. Digital magick puts the power of words and your intentions into the forefront.
Emoji Spells
Once you have your intention in mind you’re going to select a series of emojis that express your intention. I would actually suggest sitting down for a bit with a list of all the (current) emojis you have available to you and creating what will essentially be a correspondence list. Emojipedia will become your defacto research grimoire here. It just makes this is a little easier, but as always just trust your gut.
Just like you would open and close ritual or sacred space for a physical spell working, do the same with your emoji spell. This can be something really long like this…
🗡️⭕🌿🌬️🔥💧👩👨 🗡️ (casting a circle, invoking the elements and the Goddess and God)
Or much more simplistic
🙏🕯️ (setting sacred space)
🗡️⭕🗡️(simple circle casting)
🔮 (just castin’ some magick, easy peasy)
One thing to remember, like with all rituals where sacred space or circles are cast, you’ll need to release them too. So if you use that long invocation to open your spell you’ll need to reverse it to close your spell.
🗡️👨👩💧🔥🌬️🌿⭕🗡️(just like if you’re closing a ritual circle)
If you use a more simple one it would be the same.
🕯️🙏(closing sacred space by putting out your candle and offering final gratitude)
Next, you’re going to add your spell emojis. You can put your emojis that create your spell’s intention between either your cast circle or simply a pair of crystal balls. Here’s an example:
Looking for love from a man that likes to go out dancing = 👀❤️👨🕺
Put that together into a fully cast emoji spell and it would look like this = 🔮 👀❤️👨🕺🔮
Or = 🗡️⭕🌿🌬️🔥💧👩👨 🗡️👀❤️👨🕺🗡️👨👩💧🔥🌬️🌿⭕🗡️
Here are a few more spell examples:
Looking for an admiration job at a hospital that pays well = 👀👩⚕️📋🏥💰
Improving your physical health = 🤒🔚🆕🍎🛌🏃🔜🤗
Ending a painful relationship and cleansing yourself of negative energy = end, broken heart, scissors, man, water, sparkling heart, happy woman ❌💔✂️👨💧💖👩
When you put it all together, a spell for money to take a family vacation to Hawaii would look like this:
🗡️⭕🌿🌬️🔥💧👩👨 🗡️💸🏦💰👪✈️🌺🌊🗡️👨👩💧🔥🌬️🌿⭕🗡️
In the fall the next round of new emojis will come and there will be a magnet added. This will be great for attraction spells!
Once your emoji spell is crafted, you’ll send it out into the world. You could just Tweet the sequence, send it as a text to a friend, or you could post a picture of Hawaii with your spell in the caption.
As you post it, visualize your spell manifesting, and when you hit the “send” or “post” button, as out loud “And So It Is” or “So Mote It Be.”
Text and Email Spells
For these, you can include emojis if you’d like, but your focus is going to be on written words. The idea is that you’re writing an email or text that is expressing the thing you want as though it has already happened and then you’re sending it to someone who, when reading it, will also be visualizing this thing has having happened even without intending to. When you read something, your mind just naturally turns it into an image of some kind.
But there is a trick with this. You do want the person that is going to receive this to be in on what you’re doing. When they receive this text or email, they shouldn’t delete it or file it away and instead leave it in their inbox until your spell has manifested. If they really want to help fuel your magick, they could even reply with a congratulatory message, and then you would both keep the message thread until the intention comes to pass.
There are a few different ways you can do this. For a text, you’ll need to keep it reasonably short. So you could use something simple like: “I have received a raise of 25% at work!” or “I booked my vacation to Fiji for December…first class!”
For an email, you can be a bit more detailed, but you want to remember that, like all spells, it isn’t the HOW that matters, nor is it your business. If you’re sending an email spell about your trip to Fiji that you are manifesting money for, you don’t want to talk about how the money came. Your focus should be on having booked the trip and what you plan to do while you’re there.
This could be something like:
“I booked my trip to Fiji!! I’m so excited! I have a first class round-trip ticket to leave the second week of December and come back two days before Christmas. I met with a travel agent and created a full itinerary of things to do while I’m there. I’m taking a day cruise to Castaway Island, I’m going on a hiking tour of a village with a huge, beautiful waterfall, and I’m super excited to get to go scuba diving to see the coral reefs! This is a true dream, and I am so grateful to the Universe for making this happen.”
Once You Hit Send…
After sending or posting your spell, you’re going to treat this just like any other spell, because it truly isn’t that much different. The tools may be a bit unusual and seem strange at first, but when you really put it in perspective, it isn’t so weird after all.
Keep in mind that despite this being done in a way that is much faster than a traditional spell, that doesn’t mean the results are going to come lightning fast. They can, but they can with other types of spells too. Just keep your expectations realistic. Do all the same things you would do after your digital spell as you do with any other and watch for signs of your magick working. This is great. I have already been manifesting in written word for a while but I love the idea of emoji spells and text spells.
